UN Sustainable Development Goals and Global Compact

We are committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals for a sustainable future. Nomeco's efforts are particularly focused on four selected SDGs, which we have chosen to focus on to support our commitments to Agenda 2030 and the ambitious goals of the Paris Agreement.

In addition, we support the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact, the world's largest initiative for sustainability and responsible business practices. The initiative encourages companies to align their strategies and operations in accordance with 10 universal principles covering human rights, labour conditions, environmental protection and anti-corruption.

We are proud to work actively with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with a special focus on goals 3, 7, 8 and 12. At the same time, we integrate the principles of the Paris Agreement in our efforts to create a sustainable future.

SDG 3 - Health and well-being
As a pharmaceutical wholesaler, our primary mission is to deliver health. We contribute to SDG 3 by ensuring reliable access to medicines and healthcare products, which is essential to promote health and well-being in society. Our work supports one of the central pillars of the SDGs by improving quality of life and ensuring that everyone has access to the resources needed for a healthy life.

SDG 7 - Sustainable energy
We want to play an active role in the future of climate-friendly business. We work to optimise our energy consumption and invest in renewable energy sources. This is not only in line with the SDGs, but also with the Paris Agreement goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and limit global warming.

SDG 8 - Decent work and economic growth
We promote a safe and inclusive work environment that supports employee development while contributing to economic growth. A strong economy is necessary to finance and implement the climate initiatives that are essential to the Paris Agreement. We therefore work for economic growth and technological development while respecting sustainable development and safeguarding the diversity of our employees.

SDG 12 - Responsible consumption and production
We are committed to minimising our environmental impact through sustainable practices throughout the value chain. This supports both the SDGs and the ambitions of the Paris Agreement. We promote future-proof solutions in our procurement and resource consumption and stimulate waste recycling in all parts of the company. Our commitment is an important part of our long-term strategy, which aims to fulfil our business goals while having a positive impact on society and the environment.

Our strategic focus

As one of Denmark's leading players in our industry, we feel a strong responsibility to contribute to climate protection and especially to reduce the health risks that come with rising temperatures. We actively work to meet the increasing demands of both our business partners and regulatory requirements in climate management. We see the green transition as a great opportunity to create savings that can drive innovation and sustainable growth.

CO2 neutral

We are working to be carbon neutral in our own operations (scope 1+2) by 2030. Overall for the Phoenix group, this means that we will reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030 compared to our base year 2021/22.

Procurement with care

We want to source all our products and materials as sustainably as possible by 2030, based on a number of KPIs. This means that we not only look at price, but also at other sustainability factors.

Health and diversity

We take responsibility for the mental and physical health of our employees. And we want everyone who is willing and talented to have the opportunity to develop in our company - regardless of gender, professional and ethnic background.

  • CO2 reduction: We map our CO2 emissions to find the most efficient ways to reduce them in both our operations and distribution.

  • Efficient logistics: We implement smarter routes and technologies to ensure faster and more environmentally friendly delivery of our products.

Resources & procurement

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact by increasing the use of recyclable materials and optimising our resource consumption throughout the value chain.

  • Packaging and materials: We continuously test new packaging solutions with a focus on reducing the amount of materials and increasing recyclability. The goal is to promote a circular economy where resources are utilised in the best possible way and waste is minimised.

  • Waste reduction and recycling: We prioritise initiatives that reduce waste and increase recycling. Through efficient material handling and continuous optimisation, we work to reduce our total amount of waste.

Stakeholders & people

People are at the centre of everything we do. We are committed to inclusion and diversity because it is the foundation for well-being, commitment and motivation - both among our own employees and in cooperation with our suppliers.

  • Responsibility throughout the value chain: We set clear requirements for sustainability and responsibility in our supply chain. This ensures that our values live on throughout the supply chain.

  • Talented and engaged employees: We attract and develop talented and engaged employees who share our vision of an inclusive and sustainable future.

How we report

We are committed to providing transparent and comprehensive sustainability reporting that fulfils both legal requirements and our own voluntary standards.

We are thrilled to announce that our company has achieved the EcoVadis platinum medal for two consecutive years, the highest recognition in this sustainability rating. This achievement places us in the top 1% of companies globally when it comes to sustainability practices.

EcoVadis is one of the most recognised and widely used sustainability assessment platforms in the world. It is used by many companies to evaluate and improve their sustainability practices. EcoVadis assesses companies on a range of criteria including environment, labour, ethics and sustainable sourcing, offering a comprehensive assessment that helps companies understand their performance and identify areas for improvement.

We have chosen to commit to the UN Global Compact (UNGC) as part of our dedication to sustainability and responsible business practices. By joining the UNGC, we commit to following ten principles in the areas of human rights, labour rights, environment and anti-corruption. These principles harmonise with the criteria used by EcoVadis, reinforcing our efforts to achieve a high standard in sustainability assessments.

Our involvement in the UNGC reflects our desire to make a positive contribution to society and the environment, while enhancing our corporate reputation and strengthening relationships with our stakeholders. Participation also allows us to be part of a global network of companies that share knowledge and promote innovation in sustainability. We look forward to continuing our journey towards a more responsible and sustainable future.

To promote transparency and identify risks and opportunities, Nomeco has chosen to report to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) for the first time in 2024. This step marks an important milestone in our sustainability journey and shows our commitment to improving our environmental responsibility.

CDP is an international non-profit organisation working to promote environmental transparency and accountability. CDP plays an important role in advancing global action on climate change by encouraging the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and sustainable resource management.

We look forward to using these insights to set ambitious goals and develop strategies for a more sustainable future.

Our parent company, PHOENIX Group, produces an annual sustainability report that provides insight into our progress and initiatives within sustainability. The report is an important part of our commitment to transparency and accountability. You can find all sustainability reports through the following link.

CSRD

From 2026, we will be subject to CSRD reporting (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) through our mother company PHOENIX Group. This new EU directive requires companies to provide more comprehensive and detailed information about their sustainability performance. CSRD replaces the current NFRD (Non-Financial Reporting Directive) and expands the reporting requirements - both in terms of the number of companies and the aspects of sustainability covered.

We look forward to implementing the CSRD requirements as they will strengthen our commitment to transparency and accountability. It will give our stakeholders a deeper insight into our environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance and help us identify areas for improvement. We are already preparing for the transition and will continue to work closely with our mother company to ensure a smooth implementation of the new reporting standards.

Materiality analysis

We regularly conduct materiality assessments to identify and prioritise the most relevant sustainability topics that impact our business and stakeholders. This helps us focus our resources and efforts on areas that have the greatest impact on our economic, environmental and social performance.

Nomeco’s sustainability framework aligns with that of our parent company, the PHOENIX group, whose framework defines responsibilities, roles, and tasks. It also provides an overview of the activities in our sustainability agenda, guidelines, reporting, and stakeholder dialogue.

We regularly conduct a materiality analysis in accordance with the GRI Standards from the Global Reporting Initiative. In February 2021, the topics defined in 2018 were reassessed in collaboration with various departments. The materiality matrix was adjusted accordingly, and the topics were evaluated based on their relevance to stakeholders as well as their economic, environmental, and social impact on our business activities.

Additionally, we align with and report according to several recognized standards and guidelines to ensure a comprehensive and credible approach to sustainability. We use the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a framework to guide our efforts toward global sustainability objectives. We also follow the ISO 26000 guidelines, which provide guidance on social responsibility, and we are committed to the UN Global Compact (UNGC), which promotes responsible business practices. Furthermore, we apply the GHG Protocol to measure and manage our greenhouse gas emissions, helping us understand and reduce our climate footprint. These standards and guidelines ensure that we work systematically and effectively toward a more sustainable future.
